In this class, which is part of the Cancer Project Series: The Power of Food for Cancer Prevention and Survival from the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), we will take a look at how dietary fat not only hinders the immune system, but also drives hormone production, which can mean higher rates of hormone-related cancers such as prostate cancer.
We’ll explore the role of fiber and the importance of a low fat diet in reducing your risk of prostate cancer. We’ll also look at what happens when we don’t eat enough fiber and why a low-fat, high fiber, whole foods plant-based diet is a protective and preventative diet that can help in reducing your prostate cancer risk.
During the class, you’ll learn how to make three easy and delicious recipes low in fat and high in fiber. Participants will also receive before and after class literature, handouts and a copy of all three recipes demonstrated in class.

You'll learn how dietary fat can weaken the immune system and increase hormone production, leading to higher rates of hormone-related cancers like breast cancer.
We’ll discuss the role of fiber in the body, including how it helps eliminate toxins, waste hormones, excess cholesterol, and other harmful substances, which is crucial for supporting the immune system. We’ll also examine the consequences of a low-fiber diet and why a low-fat, high-fiber, whole foods plant-based diet is key to both prevention and protection.
During this 2-hour class, you’ll gain practical skills in the kitchen by learning to make three easy and delicious recipes that are low in fat and high in fiber. While all three recipes will be demonstrated, you’ll have the opportunity to follow along with one of them during the class. Participants will receive literature, handouts, and copies of all three recipes demonstrated.

This class, part of the Food for Life program developed by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), will provide you with the knowledge and practical tools to take charge of your heart health through simple, sustainable diet and lifestyle changes.
The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting preventive medicine, conducting clinical research, and providing nutrition education. The Food for Life program, a core initiative of PCRM, is designed to teach people how a low-fat, high-fiber, whole foods plant-based diet can prevent and even reverse chronic conditions, including cardiovascular disease.
In this class, we will explore key cardiovascular risk factors such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol, and how diet can directly improve or even reverse these conditions. By focusing on heart-friendly, plant-based recipes and nutrition strategies, the goal is to guide participants toward adopting healthier eating habits that reduce the risk of heart disease.
This session is more than just a lecture—it's a cooking demonstration where I will show you how to prepare delicious, heart-healthy meals. While the class is demonstration-based, you are encouraged to try the recipes at home afterward and reflect on your experience. Participants will also receive handouts with easy and affordable recipes, perfect for staying on track during the holiday season and beyond.

During the class, you’ll learn how to make three easy and healthful dishes loaded with immune-boosting nutrients such as beta carotene, lycopene, vitamin C, and zinc—empowering you to easily and naturally maintain a healthy weight and a cancer-fighting nutritional regime.
